Fuel consumption is predominantly influenced by the respective drivers driving behaviour. This applies for power enhanced vehicles as well as for standard cars. Everybody demanding full engine power will notice clearly increased fuel consumption compared with the figure on the data sheet as to the combined cycle. However in practice you often hear about “less” consumption after a power upgrade. The explanation therefore is that many drivers do not alter their driving behaviour after the chip tuning measure and thus achieve the desired driving performance.
Is the vehicles durability affected?
The durability of mechanical parts is dependent on design and conditions to which a part is subjected. The predominant number of parts used in vehicles was designed in accordance with the so-called platform-principle. For example this can mean that the same gear unit is fitted in different vehicles and engine-power outputs. Abt Sportsline’s top priority is compliance with the limit values of the parts so that no restrictions in the durability of the parts subject to strain are to be expected if the vehicle is used appropriately.
Why does Abt not offer chip tuning for naturally –aspirated (non-turbo) engines?
Chip tuning alone does not bring any considerable power advantages for naturally aspirated engines (engines without turbocharger). There are simple explanations for this: A petrol engine requires a defined fuel-air mixture for combustion. No influence by means of the ECU can be taken on the air flow and thus the amount of air coming into the mixture. A possible alteration of fuel quantity therefore only brings about a noticeable increase in performance if a mechanical optimisation is carried out at the same time (e.g. air intake, camshaft, pistons, valves, etc.
)
Does the manufacturer’s warranty expire?
Yes, for those aspects of the engine and drivetrain that the manufacturer can prove were affected by the ABT upgrade. All other aspects of the vehicle’s warranty are unaffected
.
May I use bio-diesel after the power upgrade?
If your vehicle was released for the use of bio-diesel by the manufacturer, you may also use this fuel type after the power upgrade. Due to the low energy fuel value a lower engine performance as well as considerably increased consumption is to be expected. Therefore we recommend conventional diesel fuel for full engine performance and favourable consumption.
Why does Abt recommend changing gearbox oil after 20.000 miles?
As a general rule an increase in power is connected to an increase of torque. This increase in torque is transferred to the gearbox in the form of mechanical additional load which results in higher abrasion in the gearbox. This abrasion collects in the gear oil which reduces lubrication and as a consequence causes even more abrasion. Therefore we recommend changing the gear oil after a mileage of 20.000 miles.
Can a vehicle with particulate filter (DPF) be upgraded?
Yes, cars equipped with a factory made Diesel particulate filter can be increased in performance.
